Mass Effect 2 DLC Kasumi's Stolen Memory Review

The question you have to ask yourself when thinking about picking up Kasumi's Stolen Memory is: Would you pay 700 MS Points ($7/£4.80) for Zaeed? Remember how Zaeed didn't have any conversations while on the Normandy, and didn't have a recruitment mission other than a introductory conversation? It's basically just that again. The biggest difference here is that while Zaeed's loyalty mission wasn't particularly notable, Kasumi's mission is really interesting and unique, and you get some new casual clothes out of it.
So is it worth it?

Mass Effect 2 DLC Firewalker Review

Let's get this out of the way, the Firewalker DLC is free so the only thing you are spending on it is your time, therefore this review will be more of a summary of the pack's content that you can use to judge if it's a worthwhile way to spend the hour or so of your time it takes to play through. Firewalker is broadly speaking five side-missions all focused around a vehicle called the Hammerhead. Upon returning to your command deck, Kelly will inform you that there is unread mail which usually means she is just confused or lying, but there is actually new mail this time. I was able to start the mission using a save made after finishing the main story which is an improvement over the original Mass Effect's DLC.

Just a quick heads up. Firewalker is out right now on the Cerberus network. For some reason it's not showing up in the Xbox Marketplace on the console, or on the web version of the marketplace. It's totally there if you go to the store in game though. The pack is free as announced, and is 353.67 MB.

Mass Effect 2: Cerberus Network - Suit Yourself

The shocking regularity of the Bioware production line will continue tomorrow with the 'Alternative Appearance Pack' hitting the virtual shelves, much to the delight of Mass Effect 2 enthusiasts. Featuring a heavy metal Geordi laForge look for Jack, a Matrix makeover for Thane and a good wash behind the ears for Garrus, the costumes will surprisingly not fall under the umbrella of the Cerberus Network. This means that those with their hearts set on a new set of glad rags will have to fork out 160 Microsoft Points for the Xbox 360 or 160 Bioware Points for the PC, translating to approximately £1.36 ~ $2.00.

Dear Diary,
I've forgiven Mass Effect 2 for the events of last week.
It's truly amazing the difference a couple of days can make. After my well documented disappointment with Bioware's crew member selection system for the finale of Mass Effect 2 last week, not to mention the associated rage quitting that took place, I picked the game up again, sat through the cut scenes, made some more educated choices and finally got through the first section of the mission without anyone dying.

It probably says something to the quality of the Mass Effect universe that it's one of the few video game related properties that I have ever delved into the seedy Expanded Universe of, if you'll excuse my borrowed Star Wars term. In my teen years I am sorry to say that my Star Wars fandom lead me to read some truly terrible books (mostly written by Kevin J. Anderson who felt he need to come up with something to top the Death Star which resulted in the Sun Crusher). I started as I meant to go on when getting into Mass Effect by reading the novel Mass Effect: Revelation before playing the first game, which actually nearly as terrible as I was expecting. I don't seem to have had the same compulsion to delve into the Dragon Age peripheral books and web games. As much as I liked Dragon Age I think I have a bit of a Sci-Fi bias when it comes to my escapist settings.
It's with this frame of mind that I found myself playing Mass Effect Galaxy on the iPhone recently during a particularly boring commute. I actually bought it some months ago when it was released, but was immediately put off because of how horribly it performs. With the passing of Mass Effect 2 and the big DLC not quite here yet, I found myself attempting to ignore the often the single digit framerate to try and finally get into Galaxy. I haven't used my iPhone for too much gaming in general. I pretty much only have Mass Effect Galaxy, id's Wolfenstein RPG, and Peggle. Sam and Josh are probably going to end up convincing me I need to get Plants vs Zombies if only for Crazy Dave.

Dear Diary,
Mass Effect 2 let me down badly yesterday, I hope our future is salvageable.
Just when everything was going so well and I thought nothing could go wrong, Mass Effect 2 goes and does something really stupid just as I get to the climax. Even before it was released I was aware that my actions in the main body of the game would ultimately shape how well the final mission went, but until I got to that point myself, I didn't know there was a big portion of dumb luck thrown in there too.

Free Mass Effect 2 DLC Firewalker Out Early March
By
Ian posted on
Fri 26 Feb 2010

Bioware have announced via their Cerberus Network that a new Mass Effect 2 DLC pack called 'Firewalker' is coming out in early March. The pack is described as containing 5 missions involving a new vehicle called the Hammerhead, which is a hover-tank that tops out at 120 kilometres per hour and can fire missiles at things accurately while doing so.
The pack is free to all Cerberus Network members, which is anyone who bought the game new, or paid 1200 Microsoft Points ($15/£10.20) for access with a used copy. This is part of EA’s continuing 'Project Ten Dollar', a company wide effort to get people to either buy their games new, or pay $10 for a technically non-essential but nonetheless worthwhile part of it. I guess I should make the joke about how it should be named 'Project Fifteen Dollar' here, but I won’t. I’m above that.

Spoiler Warning: the true identity of a character. post inital recruitment info
Just a quick update this time. A depressingly large amount of my time yesterday was spent in the persuit of Platinum. I did finally recruit all of the first set of crew members and progress to the next bit of story, and I think I should hit the second disc next time I play. I installed both discs, but I understand I will still have to swap the disc in the drive when it asks me to. Oh digital future, I await you with open arms!

Why on earth aren't the new outfits on the Cerberus Network? Isn't this what it was created for?
