Soldiers riding segways!
Hot on the heels of 2007's long forgotten Ghost Recon Advanced Warfighter 2, Ubisoft announce a new entry in the Ghost Recon series, Ghost Recon: Future Soldier! Ubisoft Paris, original developers of Ghost Recon Advanced Warfighter but not it's sequel are on board making this. Apparently it will contain "state-of-the-art single-player and multiplayer modes.". I take this to mean it'll have a leveling system like Modern Warfare 2, and at some point in the single player you'll be disguised as a terrorist trying to prevent some sort of horrific act from taking place and have to mow down a whole cricket ground of children using a mini-gun to keep your cover going.

A multiplayer beta is going to be attached somehow to the release of Splinter Cell: Conviction, but details of how precisely you will get it are not forthcoming. If I had to hazard a guess I would suggest they will probably either put a code in the box, or maybe only in the box that the collectors edition comes in. Everyone loves collectors editions. If they have any intention of actually continuing to promote the uPlay service that they intoduced in Assassin's Creed 2, then they should probably tie it into that somehow. Or will R.U.S.E be the last time anyone ever hears of uPlay except on this site where I refuse to stop bringing it up every time I talk about Ubisoft?

So is it a soldier in the future, or from the future? By Wikipedia's recollection, GRAW 2 already took place in the year 2014, which isn't as futurish now as it was back in 2007. It'll probably be set in the prohibition era 2020 america. I really don't want to discount the possibility that he'll be from the future. I've always wanted a game where you play as an advanced special forces soldier shooting his way through the crusades with armour piercing rounds and constant AC-130 support, but I doubt this is what Future Soldier will be. Assuming he's a future soldier fighting in his native time of the future, I wonder who his enemies are? Future terrorist who blow up important clocks and kidnap the daughters of famous watch repairmen? Wait, why would the terrorists be time-themed? Never mind.

The first Ghost Recon Advanced Warfighter, which was actually the third Ghost Recon game (7th including add-on packs), was the first and only one I've played. Its sequel is sitting staring accusingly at me from my games shelf. When did I even buy that? No idea. Given my tendency to refuse to play a game unless I've played all previos games in the same series in order, chances are I'll play through it at some point between now and Q4 2011 which is when it'll probably be delayed to at some point knowing how Ubisoft games go these days. I wonder which will come first, this, I am Alive, a H.A.W.X sequel, or Beyond Good and Evil 2. My money is on this actually, don't know why I posed such a silly question, those other games don't exist.

I can't believe I've got to the end of an article without going on a rant about Tom Clancy's Tom Clancy, though this would probably count.
